Hey there!

I’m Asha Venugopalan, a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science at Stony Brook University. I specialize in American Politics and Political Psychology.

My research focuses on gender and politics, political behavior, and public opinion. I am also interested in the political psychology of inter-group relations and survey methodology.

My dissertation examines how voters perceive the credibility and loyalty of candidates in an era of intense partisanship, with particular attention to how gender shapes these perceptions within the Republican Party.

My research has been supported by several awards, including the Carrie Chapman Catt Prize for Research on Women and Politics, the Ruth B. Mandel Dissertation Research Award from the Center for American Women and Politics, and the APSA Centennial Center Research Grant. I also received the Frank Myers Graduate Teaching Award from Stony Brook University for excellence in instruction.
